Norton Internet Comes Through To Quickly Solve Windows 7 Upgrade Problem

When considering which firm to purchase Internet protection from, you might want to consider my experience with Norton today.

After installing the Windows 7 OS on my month-old Vista computer, Norton stopped working and it failed to recognize that I purchased a three-computer 2009 Norton Internet package.

I gave up trying to fix it this morning and contacted Norton support. They had no idea I was a consumer columnist.

Sunil Sivasankaran Nair of Norton support came online, took control of my computer, installed Norton 2010 for free, and solved the problem in 10 minutes.

Thank you Norton for having such support and for hiring people like Sunil Sivasankaran Nair.

On June 6, 2009 I received a notice from Norton that my Antivirus subscription had expired and that my computer was now running unprotected.

I contacted Norton and was assured that my subscription was valid until Jan 11, 2010.

After about ten days of fruitless contacts with Norton they downloaded a program to me that would delete all existing Norton programs on my computer after which I would have to reinstall any Norton programs that I would be using, Antivirus, Ghost, Go Back, etc.

Since I have been using Norton Ghost for twenty years, (starting using it before Norton owned it), and that I heavily relied on the GO Back program I hesitated to leave Norton.

Now that things are finally back to normal and after receiving a subscription extension of a few months I am once again a happy camper, but I am not looking forward to installing the next upgrade.

Dear George, I gave up Norton for eset security. This does not interfere with the operating system as Norton does. I had to get tech support to re align the eset for Windows 7 but the online help was easy to follow and it works fine now. The best solution in my view is to go completely to Apple and ditch all of the complicated machinations of Microsoft based computers. Recently, I bought a new Apple and she couldn’t be more pleased with the simplicity of use.

Had bad experiences with Norton upgrades and changes to a multitude of PC settings, causing PC freezes which ended up forcing an uninstall of Norton. Settings would not revert to pre-Norton; had to wipe disk clean and reinstall all software. Moved on to McAfee.

I am so pleased you had a good result working with Norton’s tech support.

  4. I got AT&T UVerse in May 2008. It came with Norton Security. In April 2009 AT&T switched to McAfee but they gave its customers 30 days to download it. For a novice like me it was a nightmare. After two weeks or so, with some help, I succeeded but did let AT&T know of my dissatisfaction. They gave me a small credit. So I guess Norton lost a big contract.

Hi George – I’m glad you got good service from Norton, and hopefully that means they are changing things. I work in IT support for corporate and home clients, and have used a variety of Norton products for years. Suffice to say, their service and products were the pits for at least the last five years, and they were directly responsible for losing some private clients for me, who got tired of, among other things, bogus jacked-up updates crashing their PCs, eight-hour uninstall and reinstall dramas, and waiting for an hour and a half on hold to talk to someone.

I certainly hope your experience means they have cleaned up their act, but I still won’t use them. I strongly encourage everyone to use ZoneAlarm, a great piece of software for several years, and much more reliable.

    Be well.

    George,
You are one of the luckier ones who have dealt with Norton.

Glad to hear that they did the right thing and helped you.
