Toyota today finally recalling more than 400,000 Prius hybrid cars what what has been known at least for weeks – that some have problems with their brake systems that cause a short delay before engaging under some conditions.
This recall is on top of the 8 million vehicles Toyota has recalled around the world for problems with sticky accelerators that can engage on their own and has caused the death of several motorists.
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood – who has been pushing Toyota – the world’s largest car manufacturer – to clean up its act and own up to its problems said today that the company is assuring him that they are taking these issues seriously. But he said his staff will continue to monitor Toyota closely.
