Tom, there are many other companies that offer this service, too. The Identity Theft Resource Center recommended Debix.com last year. I later learned that ITRC folks were on their board or had some relationship. I did switch to Debix and have used them for one incident. There are many others.

I hear what they are saying, but this was much more than simply deceptive advertising. The most disturbing thing in the complaints I read was the fact the very data LifeLock is supposed to be protecting was not saved with any level of encryption, was haphazardly accessed by internal employees as well as outside vendors. To me, that is a showstopper! Could this be the biggest scam by black marketeers ever???? One has to wonder when you read all the complaints and the massive fine amount (relatively speaking). I was contemplating using their services but saw the headline and researched the news...I guess the old saying "With friends like that, who need enemies" is appropriate. I guess I'll take my chances on my own!
