Connecticut Authorities Crack Down On Accurate Chimney Services

HARTFORD, October 18 – A consumer complaint to East Hartford police last June assisted state and city officials in identifying and apprehending an individual who was performing home improvement work without a valid State registration, Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell said today.

“The consumer’s concerns about home improvement work being done in the East Hartford area led to a joint investigation between East Hartford police and the Department of Consumer Protection into Accurate Chimney Services of 1127 High Ridge Road, Stamford,” Farrell said. “As a result of that investigation, in September, the Department of Consumer Protection suspended the Home Improvement registration of Accurate Chimney Services.”

On October 12, 2010 an East Hartford police officer stopped an Accurate Chimney van conducting business in East Hartford.

With the assistance of Department of Consumer Protection agents, East Hartford police arrested Juan Ventura of 104 Jasmine Way, Dallas, Georgia for conducting home improvement without a registration, in violation of Connecticut Statutes 20-427(b). Mr. Ventura has a history of violating Connecticut’s home improvement registration law in the past, the Department reported.

Both the East Hartford Police Department and the Department of Consumer Protection are continuing their investigations. Anyone believing they may have had improper work completed by Accurate Chimney Services should call their local police department or the Department of Consumer Protection at 860-713-6110.

“We’re grateful to the consumer and to the East Hartford Police Department for helping us rid the marketplace of one more unregistered contractor,” Farrell said. “We appreciate the support as we work to keep Connecticut’s marketplace fair and safe for everyone.”
