Continental Recalls Tires on 2008-2009 Ford F-250/F-350 Trucks

Tread separation could cause a crash, company reports

HARTFORD, March 21 – Owners of 2008 and 2009 Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks should watch their mail for a letter from Continental Tire this month, as the company recalls about 390,000 Contitrac tires supplied as original equipment on some Ford trucks from the 2008-2009 model years.

The recalled tires were included on some 2008 and 2009 Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks and are as follows:

———————————————————————————————————————————–

Tire Brand Name / Tire Line / Tire Size: Production Dates:
CONTINENTAL / CONTITRAC / LT275/70R18 125/122S MAY 06, 2007 – SEP 20, 2008
CONTINENTAL / CONTITRAC TR BSW / LT275/70R18 125/122S MAY 06, 2007 – SEP 20, 2008
CONTINENTAL / CONTITRAC TR OWL / LT275/70R18 125/122S MAY 06, 2007 – SEP 20, 2008

————————————————————————————————————————————

According to Continental Tire, some of the tires may experience uneven wear and vibration and, in some cases, separation between the belt edges, especially when overloaded or when the temperature is very high.

Separation of the belt edges could lead to tread belt separation, increasing the risk of a crash.

Continental Tire will notify owners and replace the affected tires free of charge. Owners may contact Continental Customer Service toll-free at 1-888-799-2168.

  1. We are owners of a F350 and these tires were on recall. We had two blow-outs on one road trip. We purchased new tires in August 2010. We rec’d recall letter, sent in ALL the necessary copies, forms and paper work.. CERTIFIED MAIL. on April 11th and today is June 27, 2011.. I called them and they have no records of our information. They were RUDE and blamed it on me.. I have USPS proof that it was delivered. We are RE_SENDING,, this time with SIGNATURE REQUIRED!! Watch out!! Looks like these guys are losing all the paper work..maybe they won’t have to pay out if you don’t make the deadline. Will keep you posted after next Certified Letter.. Sent out TODAY!

I had problems with tread separation on my continental contirac tires. Apparently my tires were not under the recall but they were made in the same Mexico plant where the recalled tires came from during the same dates. Our local Ford dealer was not helpful and would not replace the tires. It looks like Continental dodged their responsibility and will not have to stand behind their product. Sad that Continental is so irresponsible. I will never purchase another continental tire and would not recommend anyone else to do the same. Stay away from this irresponsible company.
