Instructions On How To Reset Cable After Electricity Turned Back In Hurricane Irene

Cox officials offered the following information on what to do after electricity is returned to turn on your cable television:

“As power is restored, customers may have to reboot their modems or cable boxes. To reset, power down & unplug your device wait a few seconds & then restart.”

 Cox Communications Operational Update: Tropical Storm Irene

 West Warwick, RI – Cox Communications maintains a Business Continuity Plan intended to prepare the company for emergency situations such as hurricanes and tropical storms.  Our priority, after first ensuring the safety of our employees, is to continue to serve our business and residential customers during and after emergency events.

As the storm has passed, following are the most recent Cox Communications updates:

Technical support team members are presently assessing the state of the broadband network. Following the assessment, technicians will be deployed to begin work to restore service to impacted customers.

Service outages are primarily due to power outages.  Most Cox customers were not impacted with service outages during the storm. However, a significantly greater percentage of Cox customers are experiencing power outages to their homes, and to devices such as televisions, receiver boxes, computers and routers.

Cox technicians will assess customer needs once power is restored, will work diligently to restore services to those customers who experienced an outage.  However, commercial power will first need to be restored before Cox is able to fully restore service to those customers.

Customers who notice a downed drop or wire heading into their home should not touch the wire, but should instead call Cox Customer Care (401-383-2000).

Cox customers who have electricity in their homes but who are unable to access their Cox services are asked to call Customer Care (401-383-2000).

Also, all Cox Solutions Stores in Rhode Island are closed Sunday, August 28. Stores will re-open on Monday, August 29.

Cox Business and Cox Media Services will resume normal operations on Monday, August 29.

Finally, we are unable to release additional information on the situation at this time, but we will provide as much information as possible when we have been able to fully assess the situation.
