CNG & SCG put layoffs on hold

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and Consumer Counsel Mary Healey announced that — immediately after they presented argument at a public hearing today — the Department of Public Utility Control (DPUC) agreed to indefinitely bar layoffs at Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG) and Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG).

As Blumenthal and Healey urged, the gas companies are prohibited from laying off employees until the DPUC investigates whether the job cuts threaten safety and reliability and conflict with rate orders.

AT&T Proposed layoffs protested by AG and CWA

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, joined by the Communications Workers of America (CWA), said AT&T’s plans to lay off more workers will further devastate families and service in Connecticut.

AT&T workers have been told by the company that there will be 2,500 layoffs nationwide, including at least 75 in Connecticut, despite the company’s massive job investments elsewhere. The positions to be eliminated vary, but include engineers and technicians responsible for maintaining quality service.
