Tensions Flare as Gas Runs Short in Storm Impacted Areas, Gas Available Springfield Area

If you’re sick of high gas prices – now you can complain about long lines too. The rare October snowstorm has done more than just knock out power and damage property, it’s also caused a scramble to find an open gas station. And when you do find one like this Sunoco near the corner of Farmington Avenue and Prospect street in West Hartford, the lines can be ugly.

Gasoline supply isn’t necessarily a problem, it’s a lack of electricity to run the pumps. You might save time (and headaches) by heading south to regions less impacted by the storm. A good resource is the CL&P outage map. Plot a course to a town with a higher percentage of customers with electricity and you’ll likely find a gas station that’s open without a line. The trip might seem out of the way, but you could get refueled in less time than it would take to wait on line at one of the few open stations in your town.

Also, on Tuesday CtWatchdog editor George Gombossy found gas stations with short or no lines in Springfield, Mass., and towns north along I-91. The giant mall in Holyoke is open and gas stations around the mall had no lines as of noon Tuesday.

I don’t have any list but anyone aware of open gas stations please post their locations
My guess is that new haven and southeaster ct has open gas stations as well as the Mass turnpike and going toward Boston

I want to know why so many gas stations who are open (running on full capacity electricity) are saying “cash only” and charging 10cents more per gallon? (Sunoco on Rt 6 in Bristol being one of them)

it is possible that gas stations’ links to credit card companies may not be working properly as telephone service is out also.
