Blumenthal Apologizes For Vietnam Statements, Refuses To Admit He Lied

State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, hoping to defuse the growing controversy of having been caught telling crowds he wore his Marine uniform in Vietnam, has apologized, but not for lying.

In a written statement to The Courant, Blumenthal said “At times when I have sought to honor veterans, I have not been as clear or precise as I should have been about my service in the Marine Corps Reserves.”

“I have firmly and clearly expressed regret and taken responsibility for my words.

Unfortunately, our Attorney General has not taken responsibility for his words.

He is still claiming that that it was slips of the tongue that led him to outright lie and distort his military record in numerous speeches where TV cameras weren’t around.

The unvarnished facts – which Blumenthal has refused to open himself up to questioning from reporters – is that he did his best to stay out of Vietnam by getting not only college deferments but deferments for working in the White House and then for the Washington Post while those without connections were drafted and shipped off to fight in Vietnam.

When his deferments were running out and he received a draft number that would have sent him to Vietnam, Blumenthal quickly signed up for the Marine Reserves, which everyone back there know COULD NOT result in Vietnam duty. No reserve units were ever sent to Vietnam.

When Blumenthal admits he misstated, as opposed to just misspeaking, then we can consider his apology sincere. Until then, he is still spinning his lies.

And by the way, has anyone considered whether Blumenthal can ever appear before an official inquiry and raise his hand to promise to tell the truth without having his credibility questioned? Heck of a position for an Attorney General to be in.

Connecticut Magazine’s Editor Agrees. Here is his take.

So does IndianCountryToday. Here.

Look for me the person nedds to resign his present position and be the OLD
SOLDIER HE WISHES HE COULD HAS BEEN AND FADE AWAY. the idea that others have done the lying also says nothing. As a.g. his daily career calls for
TRUTH UNDER GOD. This will not go away and his WORD [ bond ] and his TRUST in any matter is a NON-ENTITY. The ethics of his profession [ if he thinks he still has any ] are a BALKED NIL AFFAIR.

  3. Blumenthal has the money to cover up his lies along with Delauro-Greenberg. The Wallingford Patch has a list of CT politicians that are rich and Bluementhal is in the top 7. “Connecticut’s Blumenthal 7th Richest in Congress: How They Rank A new list details the net worth of each political figure in the United States and we highlight all of those from Connecticut.”
