Girls’ Hooded Jackets, Sold Exclusively at Burlington Coat Factory, Recalled Due to Strangulation Hazard

HARTFORD – March 29 – The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection is alerting consumers to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s , voluntary recall of Girls’ Hooded Jackets with Drawstrings, due to strangulation hazard. This garment was manufactured in China and distributed by Bubblegum USA, of Los Angeles, California. This product was sold exclusively at Burlington Coat Factory stores nationwide from August 2006 through September 2009 for approximately $15.00 and $25.00.

The jackets have a drawstring through the hood which can pose a strangulation hazard to children if it should become attached to tree branches or playground equipment This recall involves girls’ hooded jackets sold in a camouflage design with a grey hood. “Bubblegum USA” and style number GS9548N-521G HZZ is printed on a tag inside the jacket. The jackets were sold in girls’ sizes 7 through 16. (See photo below).

Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr., recommends consumers immediately remove the drawstring to eliminate the hazard. Consumers may also return the jacket to Bubblegum USA or Burlington Coat Factory for a full refund. Although no injuries and/or incidents have been reported, the potential for injury is high.
