“Super Rigs Play Sets” Toy Trucks Recalled by Variety Wholesalers Due to Lead Paint Hazard

HARTFORD, December 18 Press Release  – The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection is alerting consumers to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall of Super Rigs Play Sets due to the toy truck’s surface coating contains high levels of lead. Lead is toxic and if ingested, can cause serious health issues especially in young children. The recalled toy truck set was manufactured in China and imported by Variety Wholesalers Inc., of Henderson, North Carolina.

The recalled toys were sold in discount stores in the Southeast portion of the United States from September 2009 through November 2009 for approximately $20.00. Although not sold in Connecticut stores, this recalled product may have been purchased while visiting that section of the country or may have been sent to Connecticut residents as a gift.

This recall involves “Super Rig Transport” toy truck with trailer and vehicles. The truck and trailer are multi-colored, holding two (2) vehicles and two (2) action figures. “Super Rigs Play Set” is labeled on the outside of the packaging. The box back has a bar code square with Item No. 67007, Made in China and Bar Code 6-98567-67007-3. The bottom of the trailer has an engraved code 45TNGO9.

Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr., strongly recommends consumers check their homes for this product and if found immediately take the recalled toy away from children and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or replacement product. Although no injuries and/or incidents have been reported, children should not be allowed to touch this product as lead paint is hazardous. Lead is toxic and if ingested, can cause adverse health effects.
