Ct Consumer Complaint: Medco Sticks Customer With Expensive Lipitor As Drug Went Generic Today

Consumers will save money MOST of the time when they order their medicine through mail from firms like Medco.

However, Steve from Connecticut is one of many who got burnt from these automatic refills as Lipitor became a generic drug today and is now available for a few pennies each instead of dollars.

“I just got off the phone with Medco my RX provider. They have a helpful feature called “Worry Free” refills. The idea is that they ship you refills automatically so you don’t have to worry. Well they shipped me my RX for lipitor 2 weeks before it goes generic so I end up paying full price,” Steve wrote me.

“Of course they emailed me on Saturday the 19th & shipped it on Monday the 21st I wasn’t home to get the email. I talked to a Rep & a Supervisor they refuse to give me a break… I wonder how many other people got bagged on this?” I wonder also.

Lipitor is taken by almost 9 million Americans to reduce their high cholesterol.

FOX news has a good story explaining more insurance issues with Lipitor.

I don’t see a problem. Medco was still paying the high price on that date and they just followed the procedure that has been in place for a long time.

Did you know at the time it was going generic? Did you do anything to assure your shipment was delayed until that time? Is is there fault you were not at home to get the email?

Well Ed, When I signed up for this I was expecting some kind of value added service. I’m sure my Plan Sponsor was as well, they got stuck for a lot more money than I did. So you do you think Medco got reimbursed for the high priced stock they had on hand when they went generic? Of course they did or they made some type of arrangement so it wasn’t an issue. Silly me to think Medco might want to take care of me, Their real customer seems to be the drug companies which is why they worked with Pfizer to block the sale of generic lipitor which might save their “customers” not the drug companies some cash.

Medco is a sorry attempt at mail order pharmacy. They are simply a slave to United Health making it as difficult as they can to drive you away from taking a prescribed drug. I have dealt with this company for about 3 months and have been on the phone for hours. Resolution is always my fault or do to my ignorance and no attemp at explainations is given. I am not just disappointed but disgusted with this service and I have never felt this way with a planned benefit before and I’m 56 years old. My goal in life is to rid myself of the dependancy of using Medco for anything.
