HARTFORD, November 20 – Consumers who have a bottle of Vicks Sinex nasal spray at home are urged to check the Lot Number on the package to be sure it is not from one of three lots that are being recalled in the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom, Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr. said today.
Vicks manufacturer Procter & Gamble and the Food and Drug Administration are voluntary recalling the lots because bacteria B. cepacia was found in a small amount of product made at its plant in Gross Gerau, Germany.Â
While there have been no reports of illness, the bacteria could cause serious infections for individuals with a compromised immune system, or those with chronic lung conditions, such as cystic fibrosis.Â
Consumers who have a bottle affected by the recall should simply discard the product as they would any over the counter medicine and contact Proctor and Gamble for a replacement coupon or refund at 1-877-876-7881.
The company is removing the recalled items from store shelves. The lot numbers of the recalled products are:Â
