Waiting Room Time Controlled By New iPhone App MedWaitTime

One of my pet peeves are doctors and veterinarians who double and triple book their patients because they think their time is obviously more valuable than mine.

Most have given up trying to reform these professionals, but a new iPhone app called MedWaitTime has the potential of reducing our waits.

According to today’s Wall Street Journal article by reporter Shirley S. Wang, the app invented by a Chicago doctor will notify patients when their doctors are running late and by how much.

Dr;. Vishal Mehta, an orthopedic surgeon, developed the program that is now being used by 10 doctors in Chicago because he said he felt guilty about routinely running behind and making his patients sit in the waiting room for up to an hour or more.

“Patients will say they ran every yellow light on the way there [to the office], then they sat and waited,” said Dr. Mehta told the WSJ. “Medicine is now a service industry and we have to keep our patients happy.”

I wanted to be the first to inform your readers that MedWaitTime’s iPhone application has been approved by Apple and is ready to be downloaded. As an aside, the MedWaitTime system is configured to be fully automated in order to work with existing EMR systems.

    Sincerely the MedWaitTime Team
