How is it going with your New Year’s resolutions, intentions and goals?
At this point you’ve been making an effort to establish healthy new behaviors for about a month, which makes this a good time to check in with yourself.
If you are meeting your goal then your new behavior is becoming a habit. You may be ready to set another goal. The tendency is to accomplish a health or fitness goal and then quickly move on to the next thing you want to conquer, right?
Try to resist doing this too soon. Before you set another goal, be sure to take some time to appreciate yourself and celebrate the changes you’ve made! Remember to reward yourself with something that is health-enhancing.
If you feel as though you’re failing then it’s time to revisit your goal. Perhaps you set your expectations too high. For instance, if you said you were going to hit the gym five days a week, that’s a pretty hefty goal! Why not set the goal to get to the gym twice a week and do some at home exercise in between?
Whatever you do, don’t give up! Remember, with this breath, in this moment, you can begin again!
As you’re working toward creating a more healthful lifestyle, notice what you’re thinking. We often focus on what’s wrong about our bodies, our health, or our lives. You may be criticizing yourself for not losing enough weight or for not exercising as much as you planned.
When you notice these self-judgmental thoughts, take a breath and shift your attention to something that you are doing well. Bring into your awareness a positive change that you have made, no matter how small.
As you work toward achieving and maintaining a healthier lifestyle, it’s important that you celebrate the changes that you have made as you continue along your path to wellness.
I look forward to hearing from you!
