There is a new trend in saving money using the Internet, group-buying websites like LivingSocial and Groupon.
According to a recent article in USA Today By Jayne O’Donnell and Rachel Huggins,
“Groupon has grown from 400 subscribers in November 2008 to more than 4 million; 8coupons.com, which aggregates online deals, says the number of sites offering daily group deals is up from about 10 last June to at least 80,” the article says.
“The concept: Consumers find hometown deals they like on the sites, sign up, persuade others to do so, then get a cut-rate dinner, haircut, yoga class or other product or service. The sites vary in their business models: Some require a certain number of takers for them to give the deal, while others reward shoppers based on how many others they lure. Businesses can get a short-term boost that can to lead to long-term customers, and the sites typically get a cut of the promotions.”
