The unrelenting gouging of travelers by fee-addicted air carriers continues unabated — despite, or because of, the fact the airlines are getting fat and rich again mostly on the fees and reduced service. They are making billions — billions!! — off us from their fees on baggage, seat assignments, carry-on, changes (sometimes changes they cause) and by fining everything that moves or breathes.
As noted here before, the Department of Transportation wants to hear from us about how we feel about these aerial bedbug bites. Cornell has a neat airline passenger rights webpage showing how to make our views known – including on fees and proposed changes. (The categories are to be found on the small “rule dashboard” tab on the left side of the page.) The deadline is approaching; tell them what you think.
More, a new webpage, MadAsHellAboutHiddenFees.com, has been set up by the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA), Business Travel Coalition (BTC), and Consumer Travel Alliance (CTA). This page, and its sponsors, are looking to rally the victims of airline greed and to work for change on behalf of the travel consumer. They have a petition to sign and stories shared by others and promise to keep us all updated on the sly new fees as quickly as the airline world conjures them up.
It’s worth a look — and a signing of the petition.

Charging extra for luggage is like a restaurant charging you for the plate and silverware to eat your food.
Your meal is $12.95
Fork – 2.00
Knife – 2.00
Spoon – 2.00
Plate – 4.00
Coffe Cup – 3.00
Exactly right, Pete. And how is it that we get the air we breathe for free? Or the little light bulbs? Or the view out the window? Or the seat belts? Some of the arm rests still have ash trays, shouldn’t someone be paying for that?
oops, I getter keep quiet. They might like the ideas.
