The Princess Cruises line is expanding its no-smoking rules to individual cabins and balconies — restricting smoking to several designated areas only.
Starting Jan. 15, 2012, smoking will be banned in all but a few places on all the fleet’s popular routes. Violations to the new no-smoking rules will result in a $250 fine for each occurrence, charged to the passenger’s stateroom account.
“Our consumer studies now show that smokers are a small minority of our passengers, and that the large majority of passengers value having their primary living space onboard smoke-free,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president.
She said that balconies are included in the new policy because they are a hallmark feature of Princess ships, and the line believes it’s important to keep that peaceful space clear of smoke.
