According to the Connecticut Law Tribune, The Hartford Courant has agreed to an out-of-court settlement of $7.6 million to settle a delivery accident that left a former New Haven police officer in a vegetative state for the rest of his life.
On its Internet site, the Law Tribune said that the allegations claimed that the accident was a “result of a dangerous driving practice that a Hartford Courant manager taught to a newspaper delivery driver.”
“That’s the grim story behind a confidential $7.65 million settlement in the case of Andrew Faggio, et al. v. Leon Brown II, et al., which allocates $3,350,000 for loss of consortium damages for Faggio’s wife, Jennifer. It also repays the City of New Haven $2 million for medical treatment costs, and includes legal fees of $1,850,000 for the Faggio’s lawyers at New Haven’s Jacobs, Grudberg, Belt, Dow & Katz.”
“The settlement also avoids a civil trial for Courant newspaper delivery man LeRoy Brown, in which a jury would hear testimony that Brown was trained by manager Michael J. Scott, of Old Saybrook,” the Law Tribune said.
