Low power radio making a comeback?

Here’s a nice New York Times story about the rise of low power radio, filling in the gaps where the big conglomerates have failed.

There’s hope for more small stations, which do what radio promised to do: serve its local community. This is all cyclical. The big guns are too busy holding their own profit margins to pay lobbyists to squelch competition from the low power broadcasters, as they have done in the past.

Chalk this one up to something good under a Democratic administration, if it happens. No coincidence that San Antonio’s Clear Channel Communications, the largest radio conglomerate, was a huge Bush backer.
