Vizio televisions come at a good price, but some of them have systematic issues, according to a recent federal lawsuit.

Six models of Vizio OLED and LED 4K UHD flat-screen televisions, according to the Nov.12 suit filed in federal court, are defective because they have frequent and unexpected power failures.

The following models allegedly have this issue:

Vizio denies that there is a widespread defect in its television sets.

The suit was originally filed in Superior Court but lawyers for the plaintiffs are seeking to have the suit classified as class action in federal court.

According to the suit, Vizio was well aware of the defect from complaints on internet sites but failed to fix the issue and did not honor its warranty when customers complained. The defects were discovered a few weeks after Vizio began selling the units.

“The Power Defect is substantially certain to manifest—thousands of consumers have reported issues related to power failures with their Class Televisions,” says the suit.

“Many consumers have reported that the Class Televisions exhibited power failures right out of the box, with their Class Televisions turning on and off during installation for seemingly no reason.

“Several owners report that the Class Televisions would fail to power on altogether. Consumers further report that communications with VIZIO’s technical support were unsuccessful, as even VIZIO’s own trained technicians could not solve the power failure problems, leading some consumers to have to return or replace their Class Televisions.”
