Dan Lovallo Loses Talk of Connecticut Radio Job

Conservative radio talk host Dan Lovallo lost his job today as he was told Buckley Radio that it was “going in a different direction.”

Lovallo had been with the WDRC-AM radio station chain since 1996, first as a news director and then later as the afternoon drive-time host.

The Courant’s Java columnist MaryEllen Filo contacted Buckley Radio officials, who told her Monday they had no comment.

Dan

Dan’s show will be missed by me and his many listeners and fans. As someone who had been a regular guest on his show I have found Dan to be highly intelligent, hard working, and a gracious host.

But I am willing to bet that some other radio station will pick him up soon.

  1. One less conservative zombie on the radio is a good thing for America.

when are you people going to learn when you get someone who tells the truth and says it like it is you find a way to faze him out what is your problem rush is still around get a life. good luck dan.

      BIG FAN
ct. talk show is the loser

  2. George Gombossy | February 14, 2012 at 10:05 am |

Dan is far from a zombie, he is a thoughtful, smart and open minded individual who treated all his guests with grace whether he agreed or disagreed with them.

  3. “Going in a new direction” is the latest term for “you’re out.” Good luck on your next gig, Dan

  4. Yeah, Going In Another Direction…..DOWN….One more RADIO Talent O-U-T. The future of radio is DOWNSIZING to oblivion. Like the Horse and Buggy—so goes Radio. Good luck to Dan, and any of my fellow radio folk who find themselves downsized , downplayed , under-employed.

  5. I am so dissapointed wth the radio station. I looked forward to listening to Dan each weeknight for he always puts on a good show. Dan had interesting guests and covered a variety of topics – not just politics. He was the voice of CT, keeping us informed on what was happening in our neck of the woods. Good luck Dan, I am sure your talent will not go unnoticed.

  6. I am also dissapointed with the radio station. Dan always had a great show with interesting guests. Will miss his “black conservative”, also. How long I will listen to the morning show remains to be seen, not as interesting as DAN. Good luck, Dan, and let us know where you will be next.

  7. I cannot believe this!!! Dan was a great talk show host. To bad the libs running the state cannot take the truth so they started to use their MOB tactics to scare the owner. Obama, Malloy, Union Idiots what goes around comes around! Don’t forget that.

I hope the other idiot in the White House will loose his job in November.

  8. Thomas Iffland Sr | February 14, 2012 at 5:35 pm |

Ditto for Dan Lovallo what Jackie said about Dans show!!!!! His show was great!!!!! I have no more need to dial in Buckley Radio,as there are no other programs that intrest me.

  9. One of the best interviewers, covered all the bases in an interview. Mr. K’s gone, no comment, Dan’s gone, no comment. I wonder who will be next?

  10. Great aand Finally!

  11. toni from whart | February 14, 2012 at 6:42 pm |

why do i get the feeling drc is going stictly syndicated? soon brad, mary & the rest will get their walking papers too

  12. if Dan was cut for economic reasons, then Brad must be next…. i gave up listening to Brad long time ago, all he does now are infomercials eg the fake fraud vitamin guy, the fraud reverse mortgage guys, valerie + her gang, + his “executive” assistant, etc etc….. and oh, the mutual admiration society with his buddy Pendergast….
save you face Brad, retire now.

  13. WDRC should replace their morning conserative with Dan.

  14. Dan was the best interviewer in local radio. He gave listeners the truth about deceptive governmental practices and municipal hijinks. Above all he educated the citizenry. His departure is a sad day for radio in Connecticut.

  15. gloria diana | February 15, 2012 at 9:06 am |

Sorry to have no more Dan his was the best DRC had to offer..who will be next..all conservatives will be gone as will the listeners..GOODLUCK DAN.

  16. Tuned in to Dan every afternoon for his lively show. guests that included elected state politicians exposing what is going on in Hartford and his daily commentary.
Hope that he will be picked up by another station soon. In the meantime, tuning out Buckley Radio that retains Brad Davis and Mary Jones. Why?

  17. I am sorry to see Dan leave, he told it like it is and he will be missed. DRC dumped Mr.K and didn’t want to give any explanation after 20+ years and now Dan gets the ax the same way. Yet they have that assinine show on after Joy Brown that only a moron could listen to. Nothing left on DRC that iterests me so I guess I will give TIC a chance . I don’t like how this station operates. As or Brad and Mary the writing is on the wall……

  18. Forgot to mention, Dan I’m sure someone will pick you up soon. I will be looking for you on another station. Good Luck to you. DRC made a big mistake.

  19. This is the best thing that could have happened to Dan. He was wasting talent at that Buckley. Two things I leaned from that freak snow storm back in October was the importance of a good battery AM radio and more importantly a dependable vocal AM station. Buckley Radio really dropped the ball during that storm. No information at all from what I could make out from long distance and very patchy 1360. The local Buckley station 610 was completely off the air for days. Luckily 1080, Buckley’s competitor was there and did an incredible job. They never left the air and on–air staff never left the microphone.
Buckley dropped the ball again. They lost the one thing that they had going for them. There’s no reason the change the dial at 3PM anymore, it will just stay on 1080.

  20. He got what he asked for. You cannot be 100% negative 100% of the time. Think of the people that he tried to destroy. Some of his targets he might have been successful in destroying.
What goes around comes around.I to wish him well hopefully he will learn.

  21. Joseph Walton | February 15, 2012 at 12:25 pm |

Dan has a ton of irritating traits but his constant bashing of Connecticut did the most to drive me away from DRC and purchasing products and services from DRC sponsors.

Perhaps Dan’s departure from DRC will provide an opportunity for him to move to Alabama or Mississippi. I am sure he is more apt to find happiness there. I certainly hope he does!

  22. my afternoons will never be the same !!!!! dan was the BEST radio talk show i’ve ever followed. it was so refreshing to hear him say it like it is. i will never listen to wmmw again and will never hear any of their ads. VERY BAD DECISION to cave to malloy.

  23. larry jackson | February 15, 2012 at 3:21 pm |

Dan Lovallo, the only one on air with B—S! Screw the politics as usual that got him out. Screw Brad, and WDRC. It’s John Rowland from now on.

  24. Dan will be missed. 1 conservative voice stilled. WTIC 1080 has great conservative local talk show hosts ! Ray at 5:30 AM, Jim at 9.(Rush at noon-not local of course), & the guv & Pastor Will at 3. Check it out.

  25. Dan had a really good thing going; listened nearly everyday since 2007. I would catch my wife listening in as well, even though she pretended not to like the show. There was great commentary, it was thought provoking, and it was consistent. I did not always agree with Dan, but didn’t need to; I am pro free speech and am not insecure. Go to the mat with the facts and see who is left standing.

I am not here to bash the station, or promote another one. Can’t help but wonder what the demographic is that they are after with this one though. I am 41, very well educated, a registered independent, with money to spend. There are lot’s of us out there. We don’t get a “bee in our bonnet” and scream every time we are confronted with life, so maybe we are not as visible. Maybe that needs to change.

Talk radio is kind of a funny thing. Much more personal medium than most other outlets. So when you listen in for 5 years and one day that voice is gone, well it’s pretty disappointing. Good luck Dan, hope to catch your show again sometime.

  26. John Phillips | February 15, 2012 at 9:50 pm |

Well, I stopped listening to that brain-dead Brad Davis quite a while ago and only tuned in to hear Dan and Michael Savage. The station has really gone to hell and I guess it’s the way the liberals want it to be. Wonder when (or if) the idiots in this state will finally rise up and make themselves heard.

As someone further up the list mentioned, one more set of ears who will not be listening to their commercials

  27. Lincoln Taylor | February 16, 2012 at 7:26 am |

There is something Squatchy going on!! Dan was the only reason to listen to that radio station. Someone is drinking the Obama cool aid in the main office!! There will be no conservatives here! Now I will have to listen to Gov Rowland on WTIC….say it isn’t so……someone better pickup Dan soon, quality programs like his are few and far between………………….

  28. Greg Oloskey | February 16, 2012 at 7:48 am |

Dan, Sometimes your constant negativity was a bit too much. However, usually the positions you took were “right on” and very informative. You are the only one NOT AFRAID to speak and expose the truth.
Brad has done a good job but he has lost touch now, and its time to retire. Goofy Mary Jones is a joke with her rediculous silly conversations like “what did you have for breakfast” or “how often do you blow your nose” etc…..! Talk of CT is done, and I can’t wait to hear you(Dan) on another station.

  29. If WDRC is going in a different direction – let them go! I’ll go where ever Dan goes. I’ll really miss him and his courage to bring truth to his listeners. In the meantime, WTIC has just picked up a new afternoon listener.

  30. OUTRAGEOUS! What is Buckely Radio thinking…I wonder if they realize that this decision is arrogant, deceptive( budgetary constraints… Pleeaaasseee!) poor business and losing a HUGE listening audience…yes…they soon shall truly have budgetary constraints.
Well, there’s always our constant updates on The Monaco Family, The Pedersons,Carmen Anthony etc. etc.etc. Now this is current and informative to you?
Well…it’s just terrific having to hear about all these ” wonderful families! ”

Keep up the good work Buckley Radio….you, too, will be gone unless you join the world we now live in.

  31. Connecticut Yankee #19 | February 16, 2012 at 2:32 pm |

Just erased all pre-sets to DRC, will never

listen again!! Steve Malzberg, Mr.K and now

Dan. WOR 710 was always held in high esteem

but Buckley radio has sunk to new lows.

John Gambling and Lou Dobbs are the only

    ones with class.

    Hurry back Dan!!

  32. Clayre Johnson | February 16, 2012 at 5:26 pm |

I agree with the majority of listener comments. Letting Dan go is a HUGE mistake. We want conservative fresh talk. Mary Jones is silly and doesn’t interest me. Your new show after Joy Browne is the stupidest show I’ve ever heard in my life (I’m 66 years old). I too have missed the Steve Malzberg show. And what happened to Mr.K?? How about an explanation for all of us loyal listeners?? Dan’s one time producer and co-host, Chris is also missed, as is Phil Miken…who was great! Yes, it looks like the station is caving to the libs. Too Bad!! I’ve listened to 1360 for a very long time but now find myself moving over to 1080 more and more. Please bring back some refreshing conservative hosts…and please get rid of that George guy who follows Joy Browne. All the best to Dan who will do very well I’m sure. Buckley radio needs to take a hard look at the direction they are going in.

  33. Regarding this comment:One less conservative zombie on the radio is a good thing for America

Here is the truth. You are a sheep who still believes there is a difference between the republicans and democrats. They are both owned by the Rockefeller and Rothschild interests. I think bringing this up on air, and speaking of the Federal Reserve crime syndicate cost Dan his job. He is AWAKE. Be a wolf, not a sheep. Fight the New World Order has you brainwashed.

  34. Now Roland? So we should listen to this nepotist felon? What a pathetic shame. What is more pathetic, is that people hold this felon in such high regard?

  35. I can’t help but think that Dan’s continual (and accurate)criticism of Governor Malloy’s failings were a major factor in the loss of DRC’s best show. It must be difficult to obtain advertising revenue from any business which is “Malloy-friendly.” Also, being locally owned, DRC’s owners may have received pressure from Malloy’s minions. Sometimes the truth hurts–it’s awful that Dan had to pay the price! Thanks George-for giving us a forum to express our grief–now you’ll have to help Dan set up his own web site until he’s back on the air!

    • George Gombossy | February 16, 2012 at 6:26 pm |

I think you meant NOT Malloy-Friendly.
Anyway I have asked Dan to write a weekly column for Ctwatchdog

  36. Budgetary Constraits my a***…please, if they had such a budgetary constraint, getting rid of the behemoth(Brad) would’ve salvaged a large chunk of the budget. There are people who don’t listen to Brad yet listen Dan because Dan is pretty honest. I am a liberal, but I liked Dan’s approach when it came to interviewing politicians…he was very direct and unforgiving. Yeah, I may not have agreed to alot of his views, but atleast he wasn’t afraid to point them out. I can respect any Conservative who does that. Brad lost my attention with his “I can’t believe this” nonsense. Brad tended to talk about the Nation whereas Dan talked about CT and it was pretty informative to the point that I looked forward to hearing about his latest news about the latest in CT politics because it was what concerned me the most, not what the president was up to. He was about the ONLY one who wanted to have a direct conversation about race and he brought in black folks from all walks of life, even Democrats who were running for either Mayor or Senator…atleast the ones who didn’t shy away from his questions. The wusses go to Brad because he coddles them with compliements. I swear he needs to go so they can save Dan’s job back, and his sense of humor was hilarious. He’s a trip to be honest. I will miss his show just like I miss Colin McEnroe. I used to go back and forth between Colin and Dan just to listen to both liberal and conservative points while at work. listening to these morons on the Syndicate is just stupid.

as for DRC they need to up their programming because they are not the most professional, there are times when the station stays stagnant for atleast fifteen minutes during the weekends as if nobody was there at all. as for that wannabe comedian afterhours, he’s just pathetic. CT people don’t need someone from NYC to put on some stupid show about nothing.

again, there goes a long pause at 6:31 pm on DRC…they need to fire their engineers or something.

  37. I believe Mr. K had retired after 15 or 20 years or so ….he had spoken about it ON the Dan Lovallo show if I’m not mistaken…he was retiring and he said he was going back to painting since he has a studio where he can paint which was his hobby.

  38. Joe Privitera | February 16, 2012 at 9:40 pm |

Dan had a good quality show,I looked forward to listening while I worked and at home,Buckley Radio can say why they canceled the show but it seems very suspect. If it turns out that Buckley Radio terminated Dan Lovallo Show on his political views and especially what he says about Dan Malloy then shame on them,I will do my business somewhere else and not listen to Buckley Radio. I hope Dan Lovallo gets his Show back on another station.

  39. Dan was fair and honest. He will be missed.
Hopefully, another station will pick him up soon.

  40. I too reflect the sentiment of most of the commentors that the loss of Dan’s voice in the afternoon is terrible and I too will not listen to the Buckley radio channels. The national syndicated hosts do not interest me. Loved Dan’s show because of the local government people that Dan would interview and how he held their feet to the fire. Too bad for the sponsors I won’t be listening so I won’t be buying. I miss Mr K and Chris Ryan too and generally had stopped listening to Brad Dabis when he paired up with Mary Jones. And while she seems very nice and all I just couldn’t take the boring fluff that was being rolled out in the morning. Hope Dan gets another opportunity somewhere to be on the air. Hope he keeps us posted do we can listen in the future. I also emailed the program director with my displeasure for what good it might do

  41. The politician finally got to the station our
Dan Molloy could not take it.

  42. While Dan’s views were honest and straight-forward, his negativity might have been a little too much to swallow for a lot of people. His criticism of the Governor bordered on lack of respect for the office. I’ve often wondered what would Lovallo say if President Obama or Gov. Malloy ever did something really great that he actually agreed with? Would Dan Lovallo give either of them credit, or would he try to find some negative aspect, and present that? Nothing is black or white, but people like Dan Lovallo, well, their job is to only show one viewpoint, and I guess that’s what turns a lot of people on, because you really don’t have to think things through – Dan Lovallo will do it for you.

  43. If you were a regular listener like I was, you would know that Dan did provide positive feedback when Malloy or Obama did something right. You may not have heard those comments because they rarely do. Dan will be missed, he was the only reason I listened to DRC. Brad is OK but his infomercials are too much. I hope Dan lands on his feet, he was great.

  44. Dan was a true conservative voice who got a taste of his own free market medicine. It was not any kind of cabal that caused him to be taken off the air, it was the station’s desire to maximize its profits. If you don’t like it, don’t listen. I hope Dan is able to find a new job. My wife is out of work too and has been for a few years. She is not lazy and we are not dependents. Dan might have to find out what it is like to find out what it is like to be unemployed now yet still wanting to work, instead of ranting against those that don’t have a job and can’t find one.

  45. Dan Lovallo was, is, and always will be Dan Lovallo. He spoke the truth and to quote the great Jack Nicholson, they can’t handle the truth. Buckley Radio made a huge mistake in cancelling Dan’s show. And if they think that the listeners are going to fully buy that “budgetary reason” garbage then they got another think coming. Dan Lovallo was the best program on radion because he told it like it was. He was sometimes negative, but even his negativity was right on because it was right. Dan Lovallo will find another opportunity because he is that good. I hope and pray that it will be in Connecticut.

  46. listen, Dan got a taste of his Free Market Medicine. I know he’s got a job at a supermarket, could be why he kept bitching and moaning so much. His rants bordered on so much hate that you’d think he wanted to throw a bat at the Governor..yeah, he did say positive things about Dan Malloy, but that one time, as well as President Obama…ONE TIME, and I’ve listened to him since 2008 or so when they got rid of Colin McEnroe…I can’t stand Rowland, so I had to go with the better or two evils. His callers were the funniest becuase they kept coming with the same shit every fucking day. I mean, John from Hartford, STFU, Dave from Waterbury or wherever, the former teacher from an urban school…STFU…you’re dribble was so fucking annoying. The only bright mofo that ever got my attention was Ferris because he would call with different names. LMAO…he was a trip, and Dan Hated it, while Colin entertained it, :D…only goes to show that Dan had stick up his ass. I can bet you any amount of money that his audience consisted of everybody that went to the “Dinner with Dan” events at the pond house cafe, LOL….that’s how big his audience was. you can’t maximize your profits that way, and he knows that, but kept on trucking with his borderline hate speech. Buckley Radio sucks anyways, with the except of the Chef and the Pet shop guy, and I listen to them when I want to take a nap.

  47. I don’t know what his views were before 2008, but whatever it was, must’ve been long enough that the radio station couldn’t take it anymore, he had 15 years to fix his shit, and didn’t

  48. dennis passan/ n.b. | February 19, 2012 at 7:50 am |

wow ! oh…the humanity!! for me i was a regular schmuck that looked for intelligent listening companionship… i found dan and he said ya gotta stay up on this stuff or you wont understand it to make the right decisions! so i was lazy, i admit it, i never looked into anything except i started listening to dan at 3, then i started looking forward to it, dan was doing all my homework for me so i figured i would cheat and just tune into him for all the info, im the one that picked and choosed after that. what’s this i hear? somebody says that the minions of malloy had something to do with a lack of commercial time sold because of dan objectivity? wow-who knows? i think drc’s new direction just got in the way of their own success, unless mindless mediocrity was what they were after?
dan please try not to read some of these replies that are coming from some dark place’s that people have, but look to the bright side, yes it happened and everything and everybody will survive, and most importantly some valuable lessons will be learned by everyone involved, see… even in loosing dan were still learning about things! now that’s a positive thought! and i hope soon we all can listen to you again, people make mistakes dan and my mommy always told me everything will be ok!!!!!!

    To Talk of the Town
Everyone knows that Dan Lavallo was one of the most
outstanding show hosts. He was not only knowledgeable and briliiantin his analysis of the
news but he had COURAGE to speak up about important
issues and their negative impact. And everyone knows
he was let go because of his political comments about the legislature, and more. In addition to his brilliant analysis of government,
he is a fantatic and brilliant conveyor of sports
information. He is a walking encyclopedia and I used to enjoy every moment of his sports news.
I am so uspset. I only hope he is offered a wonderful position elsewhere. Talk of the Town has
lost a lot of listeners who are very, very disappointed in the management of Talk of the Town.
I miss you, your program and your wonderful laugh.
    Carey

  50. So sorry not to have Dan to listen to now. He was so good covering local & national subjects. However…I think something smells really, really bad here. Dan was so good in his coverage of Gov. Malloy….I think, & it is only my opinion, that the Gov. put pressure on the radio station to have him removed. Just my opinion….

  51. I could not listen to Dan’s radio show because I am living in RI. I do have fond memories of Dan from his early days in radio at WSNG and his baseball broadcast career. No doubt by the wonderful commments regarding Dan’s show, he will be back in radio soon. God bless you and yours, Dan.

  52. Dan,
I sorry you are no longer with DRC. I wish you the best of luck. You have always been a great advocate for life. I thank you for that. You are also an incredible interviewer. The first interview I remember you doing was with Pat Summerall. It was fantastic. You were respectful and asked great questions. I could tell you cared about Mr. Summerall’s, and all your guests, because of the way you listed to their responses. With many radio personalities it is all about self promotion. I never sensed that with you.

  53. I too will miss Dan’s show. I looked forward to listening every day on the way home from work. It was my place to go to get the “real” news about Connecticut. Buckley radio has lost another listener.

  54. Dan is the best local talk show host I’ve ever heard. When a caller talked, Dan listened. Most talk-show hosts interrupt, talk over and insert sound bites into the conversation while the caller talks. Dan is respectful, intelligent, with a vast knowledge of politics and sports, and is entertaining. On certain topics he was fiery and passionate. When he criticized Governor Malloy, Malloy had it coming. When he criticized President Obama, Obama had it coming.
Before I retired, we listened to Dan at the office. My co-worker, never listened to WDRC, and had not heard Dan until I tuned him in. She soon became a Dan fan.
Now there seems to be no reason to tune in WDRC anymore.
    I miss you, Dan.

  55. Lincoln Taylor | February 27, 2012 at 10:39 am |

Not to surprising, When you are on top, doing the right thing for the people, putting everything you are into the job there are those that can not stand it. They want to be in charge and will do anything to knock you over. The truth hurts kids….Dan told the truth

  56. Hello 1080!

  57. was this a budget firing or was it all political? the way this country and ct is moving many are trying to silence conservative talk radio. dan, you’re upstanding and a true honest conservative that tells it the way it is. we need more like you. i look forward to hearing you on another ct station.

  58. I miss Dan, he is most often right on. to bad they kept
theold fart & the Waco,Mary p c nut job. I agree(Dan told the truth) that frightens many people
    good luck Dan

  59. Probably the thought police were threatening his advertisers and station. They’ll go after Mr. Milk Toast Davis next. And in the name of diversity, they’ll replace Davis with Scott Haney and call it the leather face and arse pirate program!

  60. Dan Lovallo had an honest approach to what was happening and apparently was too much for those who
came under his scrutiny and forthgright opinion.
I think Brad Davis who sucks up to all politicians
and others he feels can further his egotistical
mindset had some part in Dan Lovallo’s demise on
WDRC. The station would have done better to terminate Brad and that dilly , Mary Jones who offers nothng but stupidity and meaningless tripe
on that ridiculous Leatherneck and Lace program with the hero leatherneck, Brad, ha,ha.
Bring back Dan and dump Brad and Mary.
In the meantime, I’ll stay with 1080 all day.
    Goodbye Buckley and your advertisers.

  61. there is no reason to listen to drc unless you are a brain dead Obot. Brad was all for Obama in the beginning, he fell for and drank the foolaid. Aldo Brad is quite snappy and disrespectful of many of his longtime callers, pretty soon the only listeners will be the ones that dont know how to change the station dial.

  62. Elizabeth Aleksis | February 3, 2013 at 11:18 am |

I think the loss of Dan on your station was the beginning of the end for this station ,what happened to Laura,Joy,Mike ,Sunday morning garden man .The end of listening to this station for me,Just will listen to Michael Savage at night, wonder for how long he will last??????????

  63. What happened to the Sunday morning Garden show now replaced with a much inferior one………as a former loyal listener, this was the last straw………
