Maybe instead of spending a large chunk of his time talking to reporters, state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal should have spent more time actually managing his office.
Connecticut Post Reporter Ken Dixon wrote today that state auditors have filed a critical report on the operations of the AG’s office finding “significant” issues.
Dixon said the 35-page report covering several years found “deficiencies in controlling revenue, compensatory time for employees and purchasing procedures.”
“In response, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal’s office said that in some cases, auditors found only isolated instances of administrative lapses.”
“But Robert G. Jaekle of Stratford, one of the two auditors of public accounts, said that the relatively small sampling in nine crucial areas of office management can be extrapolated as a wider-ranging problem.”
According to Dixon, “The audit found:
“That review procedures indicate a pattern of lax management, including lateness in depositing cash receipts in interest-bearing bank accounts.
“The need to improve controls over pre-approved comp time. There was no written documentation of compensatory time for at least three upper-level employees.
“Costs for contracted outside legal services exceeded contracted amounts.
” The office’s receivables was overstated in accounting information one year by more than $360,000.”
While I’ve enjoyed the occasional consumer related stories, it’s clear you have some type of agenda/vendetta against RB. Your writing used to be clear and factual. Now the writing is more like college level Hartford Advocate style. Lot’s of supposition and innuendo. It’s really disappointing because I think you do an pretty good job overall on other stories.

For the record, I’m not voting for GB. I think he’s done a fine job in his office, but that’s where he should stay. Oh, and I can’t stand the Hartford Courant.
