Costco – which recently settled a class-action suit about falsely claiming its dog food was grain free – is now facing suit over its Chocolate Almond Dipped Vanilla ice cream bars.
Both suits involve Costco’s Kirkland brand products.
The July 18 suit centers on Costco’s claim that it falsely advertises that its chocolate covered ice cream bars are coated with real chocolate.
Costco claims the bars are dipped in “Chocolate,” presented with chunks of chocolate on its packaging.
However, the suit says that the bar packaging in small print shows that the majority of the coating contains “sugar, coconut oil, and nonfat dry milk, and MILK CHOCOLATE FLAVORED COATING WITH ALMONDS.
The only near the bottom of the list of ingredients does it shows that there is a small amount of unsweetened chocolate.
“Consumers expect that companies – especially larger and respected businesses, like
Costco – to tell them the truth, not half-truths,” says the suit.
