I am simply posting Rick Green’s blog tonight and let the readers decide what is fact and what is fiction.

Consumer blogger Gombossy is up off the mattress and trying to breath new life into the sagging Blumenthal-lied-about-Vietnam story. Gombo dialed up Chris Shays, who describes himself as a good friend of the attorney general, to see if the former Connecticut congressman could recover any new memories of Blumenthal blunders he witnessed, dreamed, imagined or heard about on Fox News.

As luck would have it, Shays told the former Courant reporter that Blumy claimed he was a “combat veteran” of Vietnam. Well, sort of. Actually, not really at all.

In a telephone interview with me, Shays said Blumenthal never outright said he was in Vietnam but by frequently using the “we” word in discussing combat and service in Vietnam it was clear to him what Blumenthal was intimating.

“He was giving the impression that he was in the fight,” said Shays.

Shays, who has zestfully embraced the role of friend-from-hell, has an interesting war record himself. He dodged the Vietnam conflict as a conscientious objector before emerging as a leading Iraq War hawk under President Bush. In other words, it wasn’t OK for the war machine to use Chris Shays, but it was fine for your kid to go to war for Dick Cheney.

Linda McMahon’s forces are lobbying hard for this story, comparing it to the New York Times story of last week.

  1. Rick Green has a disturbing and growing history of twisting facts to support his narrative. It seems being a columnist allows him to do that without retribution. Ironically, in his bio he touts his years as a real journalist. Yet now, he seems to relish fact errors, questionable columns based on single source or clearly taking facts out of context or twisting them to suit his purpose. He’s had problems in his probate court crusade, chiropractic and now Blumey. I’m quite sure there are probably more. If one is going to have the reporting profession’s credentials, they should not be put on the shelf just because you now call yourself a columnist.

  2. “who has zestfully embraced the role of friend-from-hell” – sorry, but that’s funny!

Blumenthal didn’t say “when we were in Vietnam” he said when I served in Vietnam. “They spit on me when I returned from Vietnam” Thats what he said. I wish he were here so I could spit on him.

  4. I’m disappointed to see that a website that had useful potential is now just being used as a sounding board for your political opinions. This has been clear in your last 2 newsletters. Time to hit “unsubscribe”, I signed up for “ctwatchdog.com” not “letsbashblumenthal.com”. It’s a shame.

There is only disgust with the FACT, FACTORS, and PEOPLE WHO HAVE collabo-
rated the dishonor, theft, and questioning to the mind set that the a.g. needed to
bolster his resumNAY of VALOR STOLEN. The cleanseing of his stories to the older
people DICKIE SWINDELLED AND LIED TOO. The LACK OF CONTROL with his own
staff just shows the MISPLACED ,AS WELL AS, MIS-SPENT TAXPAYER’S $$$$$$$$$
that are being UN-COVERED IN Dickie’s MIS-MANGEMENT. The person is a schurade, a clown in constant DISGUISE, laughing all the way to the bank. This not a job but a SHAME TO THE PEOPLE OF CT. CUT THE LINE AND LET THIS SUCKER SINK TO THE DEEP, DEEP, DEPTH OF HIS DARK CULTURE OF DEATH.
