Acting Insurance Commissioner Barbara C. Spear today said the Department is saddened to learn of the passing of former Insurance Commissioner Joseph Mike, who died Tuesday at his home in Bristol. He was 64.
He became the youngest Insurance Commissioner when he was appointed at the age of 30 by Governor Ella Grasso. He served as Insurance Commissioner for nearly 10 years.
“His former colleagues in the Department have very fond memories of Commissioner Mike. He will always be remembered as a kind and thoughtful man who cared deeply about the people around him,” Commissioner Spear said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time.”
Having had the honor to cover Commissioner Mike when he was the Insurance Commissioner for Connecticut, I completely agree.
Mike worked hard to protect Connecticut consumers and was a class act. We need more people like him in government.
