Ct Assistant Attorney General Says Blumenthal Lied To Him About Vietnam Service

Copyright CtWatchdog.com 2010

A veteran Connecticut Assistant Attorney General claims that Richard Blumenthal falsely told him 18 years ago that he had served as a Marine in Vietnam.

“It is the most despicable disgusting thing,” assistant attorney general Richard R. Hine told me in a telephone interview this morning.

Hine, a 24-year veteran trial attorney working for Blumenthal, said not only did Blumenthal lie to him 18 years ago about serving in Vietnam, he had heard Blumenthal make similar false statements at about five functions the two attended together over the years. He said he could not pinpoint any of the five. Blumenthal is now the Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Chris Dodd.

How things have changed at the Chicago Tribune since the Tribune Company went into bankruptcy and the new CEO Randy Michaels took over the chain.

Consumer blogger Gombossy is up off the mattress and trying to breath new life into the sagging Blumenthal-lied-about-Vietnam story. Gombo dialed up Chris Shays, who describes himself as a good friend of the attorney general, to see if the former Connecticut congressman could recover any new memories of Blumenthal blunders he witnessed, dreamed, imagined or heard about on Fox News.

Former Congressman Thought Blumenthal Fought In Vietnam After Listening To Numerous Speeches To Veteran Groups

Former Connecticut Congressman Chris Shays said tonight that he became convinced that Attorney General Richard Blumenthal was a “combat veteran” of the Vietnam war after listening to numerous speeches that Blumenthal and he gave to veteran organizations over the years.

In a telephone interview with me, Shays said Blumenthal never outright said he was in Vietnam but by frequently using the “we” word in discussing combat and service in Vietnam it was clear to him what Blumenthal was intimating.

“He was giving the impression that he was in the fight,” said Shays, who clearly was uncomfortable discussing this issue.

Blumenthal, Media Failed The Public In Their Spins On The AG’s Vietnam Service

We all had an opportunity to watch how both Ct Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and the media handle an explosive political hot potato as the New York Times revealed Monday that on numerous occasions the enforcer of Connecticut laws lied when he either indicated or flat out said he served in Vietnam.

The New York Times had him cold with a video that Blumenthal was unaware was being shot at a gathering two years ago where he told the crowd he had been in Vietnam, newspaper clips where he said the same on other occasions, and a fellow politician saying he heard Blumenthal tell the same tale so often he too was convinced that Blumenthal had worn his Marine uniform in Saigon.
